Botox Q&A

How does Botox® work?

Botox is a neuromodulator, an injectable that works on the nerves that control muscle movement. When injected into specific areas, it relaxes muscles and smooths the overlying skin. Botox is the most popular aesthetic treatment today because it smooths facial wrinkles effectively.

At Revive Aesthetics MT, the team spends time with you before starting your Botox treatment. They want to understand your personal goals of care so they can make an ideal personalized recommendation and give you results you’ll love.

What parts of the face does Botox treat?

Botox treats several areas, including:

Lateral canthal lines

Lateral canthal lines are the small creases that appear around your eyes when smiling. They’re also called crow’s feet.

Glabellar lines

The glabellar lines are the pair of vertical lines, also known as the “11” lines, that appear between your eyebrows.

Forehead lines

Forehead lines can appear in the middle and side of your forehead. They’re usually fairly long horizontal lines.

These types of facial lines may initially show up only when you’re frowning, squinting, or expressing active emotions. As you age, the lines can linger permanently. Botox can erase those lines and prevent their return for as long as four months.

Does Botox treat laugh lines?

In general, Botox doesn’t treat facial folds, also called laugh lines. The main reason you develop laugh lines around your nose and mouth is the loss of collagen (a vital protein) in the body.

Collagen helps keep your skin smooth because it creates a complex support network under the skin.

Over the years, your body makes less collagen than it did in your teens and early 20s, so it’s common to see laugh lines appearing in your 30s, 40s, 50s, and later. Botox affects your nerves and muscles but can’t reproduce the skin volume you need.

However, dermal fillers are a different injectable that can replace your skin volume. Dermal fillers and Botox “play” well together, so you can treat both muscle and volume loss wrinkles during the same visit if you like.

Laser treatments can stimulate natural collagen renewal and work well alongside Botox and dermal fillers.
