Fillers Q&A

What are fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectables that increase the volume in select areas of the face. They offset the loss of:

Collagen

Collagen is a high-density protein that creates a weblike support matrix under your skin. It keeps your skin firm and youthful-looking. But, starting in your 20s, your collagen production declines every year — and the result is facial thinning, looser skin, thinner lips, and new laugh lines as you age.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)

Your body produces hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that moisturizes and plumps your skin. By age 50, you have half of the HA you once did, and the results appear on your face.

Fillers duplicate natural substances already found in the human body, like HA. Injections of synthetic HA can re-plump your skin and erase lines instantly. HA molecules also bind to water, holding up to 1000 times their weight in water to give you long-lasting improvement.

What areas of the face do fillers treat?

Fillers can nearly any area of volume loss, including:

  • The laugh lines: smoothing away folds around the mouth and cheeks
  • The mid-face: improving the appearance of thinning cheeks or defining cheekbones
  • The lips: restoring volume or plumping thin lips

Dermal fillers can also treat other parts of the face. Before your treatment session, you’ll talk about your areas of concern and goals for filler treatment with the caring Revive Aesthetics MT team so they can make personalized recommendations.

How long do fillers last?

Fillers last from six months to two years. There are many different filler brands and formulas, with every part of the face needing a different filler density, needle size, and injection protocol. All these factors play into filler longevity.

You can help your fillers last as long as possible by staying well-hydrated, practicing good skincare, and avoiding the sun.

Are fillers different from Botox®?

Yes, fillers and Botox are different. Botox doesn’t increase volume, instead affecting your nerves and deactivating excessive muscle movement. It’s great for crow’s feet, frown lines between the brows, and forehead lines, since those areas need wrinkle smoothing rather than plumping.

Botox, fillers, and laser treatments can work together to improve your appearance while stimulating your body’s natural collagen growth.
